# Why we built Speculate

> The thesis behind Speculate

Trading is already the biggest game on the planet. Hundreds of millions of people open a chart every single day, take a position, and live or die by the next candle. It has the drama of live sport, the stakes of a casino, and a skill ceiling deeper than chess. What it has never had is a scoreboard.

## The biggest game with no rules

**More players than any sport on Earth — and none of the structure.**

No rankings. No seasons. No official matches. No crowd. Chess has ladders. Poker has tournaments and final tables. Competitive gaming built entire leagues — rankings, seasons, matches, spectators, rewards — around raw skill. Trading never got that layer. You compete against the market, alone, every day, with no real way to prove you're better than the trader next to you.

That's the gap. Not the charts, not the leverage, not the assets — the *competition*.

## We built the scoreboard

**Speculate turns trading into a sport you can actually win.**

Ranked competitions. Seasons. Live spectators watching your positions, your leverage, and your liquidation price in real time. A payout curve that rewards the traders who actually finish on top — not the ones who just showed up. And critically: every competitor starts from the same simulated balance. No advantage for whoever walked in with the bigger account. The winner is decided by skill, full stop.

Trading stops being something you just *do*. It becomes something you *win*.

## Real stakes, without a real bankroll

**Your upside is real. Your downside is capped at what you paid to enter — nothing more.**

Here's the model: the trading itself runs on Speculate's own engine, priced off real Kraken market data. The trading is simulated, the stakes are real. You pay a real USDC entry fee, everyone in the lobby gets the same **\$10,000 simulated balance** to trade with, and the prize pool pays out in real USDC when the competition ends.

That single design choice is the whole thesis. You get to compete for real money and real bragging rights without needing a five- or six-figure account to justify the risk. The most you can ever lose is your entry fee — the same entry fee whether you're a first-timer or a Season veteran.

<Note>
  The trading is simulated, the stakes are real. It's not a paper-trading app, and it's not a live exchange — it's a competition, and your maximum real loss is always your entry fee.
</Note>

## A token that grows with you

**Win for yourself. Own a piece of what you're building.**

Every competition you enter earns XP. XP converts into **\$SPEC**. The people who show up, compete, and make this platform worth watching are the same people who end up owning a share of it. No spectator-only rewards program bolted on afterward — the players who grow Speculate are structurally aligned with Speculate.

***

We're not building another trading app. **We're building the biggest sport nobody's officially scored yet — and giving it a scoreboard, a season, and a crowd.**
